Thanks for your comment, but I beg t...Hi Matthew,

Thanks for your comment, but I beg to disagree. Lots of times, I've gotten places faster by bike than I ever would have by car. Frequently, I pedal past vehicles stuck in congestion. And, by cycling you're getting exercise and doing the city's liveability a favor.

In countries like Holland and Denmark, with higher standards of living than Colombia (or the US), many people cycle in the rain and make it to work or school fine.

As for classism, in the U.S. I remember suit-and-tie execs cycling, skating and even riding electric skateboards to work (albeit in San Francisco), something I have a hard time imagining here.

But I do agree about the sad condition of many of Bogotá's bike lanes.

Best,

MikeCiclistas Bogotahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06451551691291478061noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5510416166850544321.post-86274698437373356192013-02-13T10:53:00.701-08:002013-02-13T10:53:00.701-08:00I would love to get around Bogota more often by bi...I would love to get around Bogota more often by bike but 1) driving is still nearly always faster even with the horrible traffic, 2) the bike lanes are abysmal and I don't feel safe at all, and 3) rain. You can hate on Colombia's "class-conscious" culture all you want (as if North American or European cultures are any better), but the fact is it's just not very smart/easy to ride a bike in Bogota.Matt Rekoskehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03474363858032876734noreply@blogger.com
